Simon Fraser House was built between 1790 and 1810 and has been a classified historic landmark since 1962. It has had many uses over the centuries, and remains an important part of Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue to this day. Originally built for Peter Grant, a partner in the North West Company. The Irish poet Thomas Moore is said to have stayed here in 1804, composing his famous text “The Canadian Boat Song”. After the manor house of the Seigneurie de Bellevue burned down in 1820, Simon Fraser, owner of the fief and also a partner in the North West Company, acquired the house as his manor. His descendants owned the property until 1965.
